With the warmer weather already kicking in it’s time to prepare your home for the heat! While we are still in Spring, it’s a good idea to start getting your home prepared early before the full affect of summer is here. Our Sales Customer Service specialist, Jess McPherson has some tips to help make sure your home is ready!
TUNE UP THE FANS AND AIR-CON
Start by giving your fans a good clean. Dust them off and check which way your ceiling fan spins. Tip: A fan that rotates clockwise will circulate warm air, while one that rotates anticlockwise will push cool air. Next move towards your air conditioner. It’s a good idea to get it serviced annually to make sure it’s in tip top shape. By checking this in late September/early October you can ensure you’re prepared for the first seriously hot day of the year.
CLOSE THE CURTAINS
While we love the look and airy feel of light curtains in the summer, heavy curtains are you’re new best friend. Heavy curtains will help keep the heat out and also help stop your furniture from fading from the harsh rays of the sun. Make sure you work out what direction the sun is coming from and at what time of the days you need to keep them closed.
BREEZY BEDROOM STYLE
Get things right in bed and switch to lighter, more breathable linen as the weather starts to heat up. You’ll have a better night’s sleep and won’t need to pick up last nights sheets from the ground in the morning! It’s also time to start switching up your décor with lighter colours & different materials. Switch your heavy blankets and rugs from winter into ones that are finer and made of natural fibres such as hemp, jute or cotton for a more casual, relaxed vibe.
TRIM THOSE TREES & HEDGES
As the weather warms up, the snakes and other animals/insects come out! Try to prevent them from hiding in your garden by keeping it nice and tidy. And remember to remove all those clippings and left overs immediately!
DEFROST YOUR FREEZER
The ice can certainly build up in your freezer so now is the perfect time to give it a de-frost. Give it a good clean and throw out any food that has been there for longer than it should of! Let it completely de-frost before turning it back on. This not only will allow more room in your freezer but it will help it run more efficiently and save you money!
