Whether you work from home or in an office, it’s essential you have a workspace that makes you feel inspired and productive. While selecting the office furniture such as your chair and desk are important there are a few aspects that are overlooked which can have a significant impact on your mood. To ensure you create a positive workspace which will boost productivity take a look at our tips from iThink Customer Service, Chloe Liston.

KILL THE CLUTTER

It’s impossible to work productively in an environment that’s messy. Start by having a good spring clean of your office- get rid of any stationery that doesn’t work and documents you no longer need. Then commit to an organisational system- whether you prefer to store documents in traditional folders or keep digital copies on your computer make sure you label and name folders clearly so you can easily locate them. Once you’ve done this once, get yourself into a routine and ensure you clear your desk after each workday so you can start the next day in the right mindset. Remember a clear desk equals a clear mind.

KEEP DÉCOR TO A MINIMUM

Tying in with our first tip, to help reduce clutter you should try and keep your décor to a minimal. When styling your office think of unified décor that oozes simplicity. Think simple colour themes that suit your personality. Some ideas are white with a bit of gold or pastel; or black with a pop of greenery. Also, try to reduce the number of personal items you have on your desk such as photo frames. Keep these items to a minimum to help increase space on your desk. The last thing you want to feel is closed in and trapped under a mound of unnecessary items.

GO VERTICAL

A lot of times we forget about the potential of vertical space. Utilise this space in your office with vertical shelving such as bookshelves. You can use this space as extra storage to keep items away from your work desk. Make sure you keep this system organised. Furniture stores like IKEA and even Kmart stock small boxes and tidy cubes that will help keep this in order.

ADD PLANTS & BOTANICALS

Plants not only look great in the office but they also improve air quality and purity, decrease room temperature (which is great for summer months) and lower humidity. They are also a great way to add a pop of colour to your office and can create a calming atmosphere. Just be careful not to over-do it- you want to get some work done, not get lost in a jungle.

SPICE IT UP

Candles, diffusers and essential oils can also optimise your desk and even your workflow. Not only do they keep the space smelling nice and fresh, but certain oils can also trigger different moods and feelings. Opt for frankincense or lavender to increase focus, concentration and productivity.
