Summer is almost here, which means so is the sweltering heat. Nothing drains your energy and dampens your mood more than 40+ degree days or heat waves, so it’s time to think smart about your interiors. By taking the time to think about what interiors are turning your home into an oven, you can make your summer a more enjoyable and comfortable one. To help you out, here are a few interior design tricks to cool down your house and help it breathe easier from iThink Sales Agent, Caitlin Noble.

CLOSE IT UP

We’ve talked about this tip before in our blog ‘Get your home prepared for the warmer weather’, but it’s an essential! The best way to keep the sun and heat out is by installing blinds or heavy curtains. You can buy plenty of stylish curtains or if you’re thinking about blinds why not stick to white to give you that fresh coastal vibe.

Remember to close the curtains/blinds depending on what time of the day it is to minimize as much heat entering your house as possible i.e in the morning make sure the windows on the eastern side of your house are covered and in the afternoon do the same to the western side.

BRING THE OUTDOORS IN

Breathe easy this summer by introducing some indoor plants to your home! Indoor plants are not only a growing interior trend but they come with loads of benefits! Two of the best benefits for the summer season are that plants can purify the air and also cool the home. Take advantage of their cooling qualities, vibrant colours and scents by placing a few pots around your home!

FRESH IS BEST

Candles and lanterns can radiate a lot of unnecessary heat. To help with this, it’s time to replace your candles with vases of fresh flowers. Not only will they make the space feel vibrant but will also be a natural and chemical-free way to freshen your home! If you need some extra light use smaller lights such as fairy lights which produce little to no heat at all. Fairy lights will also fit in perfectly with the festive season!

SAY GOODBYE TO LAYERS

Now that we are going into summer it’s time to say goodbye to all our fluffy rugs and throws. While we do love layers, in the warmer months it’s just not practical. Once removed you will definitely feel the difference in room temperature and will love the change! If you still want to add some texture and layers to your home try some breathable natural fibres such as cotton or linen.
