How many times have you set goals for the New Year and failed to achieve them? A lot of people do, but this year is going to be different. Our customer service extraordinaire, Kate Weier has some tips to help you achieve your property goals and ensure you don’t lose sight of them.
BREAKDOWN YOUR GOALS
When you have an overall goal in mind, it’s essential to break it down into smaller goals. Categorise them into short, medium and long-term goals. For example, if you’d like to buy an investment property by the end of the year you would need to have short-term goals such as getting a financial health check, start researching property hotspots etc.

CREATE DEADLINES FOR YOUR GOALS
Once you’ve created your goals, it’s important you put a time against them. No matter how big or small your goal is, set a deadline of when you want to achieve it. It’s vital to be realistic when setting deadlines to goals. Remember, these aren’t set in stone, and you can evaluate them. If you decide you do need more time, don’t be hard on yourself. It’s better to be realistic rather than trying to complete the goal half-heartedly.
WRITE THEM DOWN
You now need to make sure you write down your goals. Try writing them as a sentence and ensure they are SMART goals (i.e. specific, measurable, actionable, relevant and time based) For example if one of your goals is to get a financial health check, it may sound something like ‘Talk to my bank and get a financial health check by March 31st, 2018′. Once you’ve written them down, you need to place them somewhere so they can be seen every day. Whether it’s a whiteboard or pin board, find something that works for you and stick to it. Visualising your goals every day will keep you motivated and on track to achieve them.

TELL SOMEONE
Once you’ve told someone about your goals, it not only makes them feel a lot more real but will increase your accountability. It doesn’t matter whether you tell a family member or friend, just make sure this person is supportive and willing to give practical advice.
CELEBRATE EACH GOAL
No matter how big or small your goal is, once it’s achieved it’s important to celebrate! Reward yourself by doing something you love. This is also a great time to reflect on what you have accomplished and how far you’ve come. By celebrating the little milestones, this will keep you focused and have you kicking your primary goal in no time!
