The one thing that really puts a damper on all the moving excitement is packing. There is nothing more tedious and frustrating than going through every room from top to bottom to ensure you have everything packed, organised and ready to be transported to your new home. Lucky for you, iThink Customer Service extraordinaire, Lacey Burns has compiled a list of tips and tricks that will help take the stress out of moving.
MAKE A CHECKLIST
Grab a notepad and take a walk through your house, jotting down a list of jobs that need to be completed before the move. By having this all in front of you, you can check them off once each item is completed. It also might help to create smaller checklists for each room. Not only will it ensure you won’t miss anything, but it also makes the job seem more achievable.
CREATE A CLEAR AND CONCISE LABELING SYSTEM
Colour coordination, large labels and packing lists are all handy ways to keep track of what’s in boxes. Get a system in place at the start and follow it throughout the whole packing process. Keep a legend or list along with your checklists, so you don’t lose track of what colour means what. You’ll thank yourself later when it’s time to unpack everything.
THROW IT AWAY
One way to cut down packing time and the amount of boxes you use is to do a massive cull of all the things you no longer need. Go through each room and separate your belongings into three different piles, ‘keep’, ‘toss’ and ‘donate’. This will not only condense how much you need to take with you but will also help you wipe the slate clean and start afresh in your new property.
DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE ADMIN DUTIES
With the rush and manic of moving house, it’s easy to forget about intangible things such as changing your mailing address. One way to beat this is to ensure you have contacted all banks, insurance, mobile phone and other providers a week before you settle into the property, this will ensure your accounts are up to date with your new address, and none of your personal details get delivered to the wrong place.
