TIPS FOR DECORATING YOUR RENTAL PROPERTY

Interior decorating and styling can totally transform a space and set a mood. Nowadays there are so many ways to change a space and just because you are renting doesn’t mean you have to skimp on style. You may be hesitant to decorate and change up your interiors if you are renting due to the rules and regulations, however, there are so many ways to transform your space without having to paint, drill holes or drastically change the room. Accounts and customer service expert, Lacey Burns outlines the best ways to change up your living space, without having to seek further approval.

SOFT FURNISHINGS AND LINENS

Soft furnishings are the perfect way to spice up any room at such a minimal cost. Updating your cushions seasonally to suit the trends, incorporating throws and different textures can elevate the space and take it to a new level. Even a few new throws and cushion covers can make any old couch or bedspread look brand new. Go bold by mixing bright colours and textures, or keep it simple with a few fun cushions.

USE LOTS OF STYLING PIECES

Books, magazines, candles, small plants and other trinkets are perfect styling pieces. Transform your coffee table or storage shelves with a few knick, and it will automatically make your place seem more stylish. Don’t take up too much space though; you don’t want to disrupt the functionality of the piece of furniture. think eclectic and quirky, it gives the space character and can even spark conversation with your guests!

LIVEN IT UP WITH GREENERY

Adding indoor plants adds a breath of fresh air (quite literally). They also look great when they are styled with woven baskets, light coloured woods and clean colour palettes. Opt for an easy to maintain plant, like a fiddle leaf fig or a monestra. These plants are not only easy to maintain they look amazing and provide quite a statement. Just remember to put it in a well-lit room, and the beauty is: you only have to water them every now and then.

DON’T BE AFRAID OF WALL ART

Art really has the power to transform a space, and nowadays you can easily hang pictures and artwork without having to drill in a hook. Look for pieces that make a statement and also offer a colour palette that you can work into the room. You don’t have to limit yourself to paintings and pictures, think outside the box and incorporate sculptural pieces, hanging macramé and even removable wall stickers (provided they are easy to remove and will not remove any paint).

If you are a bit worried or hesitant as to what you can and can’t do at your rental, maybe flick your property manager an email before making any changes. Other than that, go style to your heart’s content!
